The town of Hawthorne, New Jersey reached a $3 million settlement with 3M and Dupont for allegedly polluting the local water supply with PFAS. The lawsuit claimed that the companies manufactured, marketed, and sold products containing per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances for decades. The lawsuit alleged these companies knew that PFAS would contaminate groundwater if released into the environment. Consumers were charged 13% more annually for their water use.
