In the last week of 2021, a fire in Boulder County destroyed over 1,000 homes, totaling over $500 million in estimated property damages. The county has stated that 1,084 homes were destroyed with another 149 properties damaged in the fire. 7 commercial properties where also destroyed in the fire with 30 commercial properties being damaged. The fire has since been completely contained and put under investigation. The fire was believed to be spread due to the 100mph winds in the area causing 35,000 residents to evacuate the area.
